Where to check census results for your family history

personal-1087838_640Got plenty of money to spare for your family history research? Me neither.

But I’ve been doing a lot of skipping from one website to another lately, trying to confirm dates for my family tree, and the problem is that most of these sites want money for the best results.

Fair enough – they’ve invested time and money setting up these databases, but I can’t join every website as a premium member just to research a couple of dates.

If you have the same problem, I came across a couple of sites you might like to try:

FreeCen is a free-to-use site with UK census results transcribed and checked by volunteers worldwide. It’s incomplete, but generally accurate and helpful.

UK Census Online has a free initial search facility to confirm dates, not only for all the British censuses from 1841 to 1911, but also for Births, Deaths and Marriages.
